For me, it was the race that wasn’t supposed to be and for my friend, it was the race that would get him into Boston, despite pulling off the near improbable a month earlier.
After running a 3:09:28 at the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon in Washington, D.C. back in March, I was firmly in for Boston 2014; it would be my return to Beantown after eight long years and six years away from the racing scene. So, registering for the Steamtown Marathon on October 13th was literally “water under the bridge;” a way to improve upon my time from March and perhaps attain a higher starting position in Beantown. But summer has always proven to be my training nemesis and this year was no exception.
